By providing an outstanding service to individuals living in the community, we can enrich and enhance the quality of their lives. In turn, this allows people to remain in the comfort of their own home and enjoy their independence for as long as possible.
If you would like to be part of this journey, read on to find out working in care is all about.
Working in Care
If caregiving is an unfamiliar area, you might wonder what the role of caregiver entails? Domiciliary care, which RHB Care Services specialises in, involves caregivers traveling to different clients daily and caring for them in their own home. The time spent with each client varies based on their needs, or family preferences. For instance, you might visit one client for an hour or two for dinner and light cleaning, whilst another might require 3 to 4 hours daily due to additional tasks.
A caregiver's responsibilities include:
Driving to each client’s house on a specific run in the community
Having a chat with a client, learning about their needs and interests
Preparing meals for clients
Helping with personal care i.e. washing, using the toilet and assisting with dressing
Supporting clients in taking medication
Helping clients make shopping lists and sometimes shopping for them
Being attentive to changes in needs and condition
Documenting everything that has happened during the visit
Must have a passion for supporting vulnerable adults
Must be passionate about working as part of a team and supporting colleagues as well as clients
The care and support is always personalised to an individuals needs, through a person-centred care plan. This ranges from companionship to personal care, respite to home help and housekeeping, as well as dementia and palliative care.
Benefits of Working in Care
Working in care is an extremely fulfilling role. The knowledge that you have positively impacted someone's life is unparalleled, and brings immense job satisfaction. Have you ever transformed someone’s life for the better in your previous job? This is the norm for caregivers. Plus, no two days are alike.
One day, you might assist someone with dementia, the next, an elderly couple. Each client is unique and the support offered to them is always bespoke based on their needs. As well as providing vital care and support, we always aim to bring a smile to the faces of our clients - laughing, sharing experiences, listening to stories and sometimes wiping away tears.
Joining the Team
Over the next decade, the number of people in the UK age 85 and above is estimated to increase by over 50%. This means, the requirement for caregivers will surge by 3.4 million, making it an excellent time to venture into caregiving.
